Hayate is a typical game newbie: overconfident, overly excited, talkative, etc. But Hayate also has his kind side: he’s quick to help those in need and puts the well-being of others before his own. Kyuzo: A member of the human tribe, he has thick black hair and his attire consists mostly of black and red. In The World R:3, he is the guildmaster of Samurai 7, and his Job Class is Assault Ace. Kyuzo’s a sadistic schemer and a skilled hacker who hopes to use the power of the .hack//Arms to become the most powerful player in The World. Piros VIII: A member of the human tribe, he has short blond hair and his attire consists mostly of armored silver. In The World R:3, he is the fourth member of Samurai 7, and his Job Class is Flick Reaper. Piros is an overly talkative person – even more so than Hayate – which tends to get on Kyuzo’s nerves. He considers himself the savior of The World, seeking to “destroy the evil that plagues the game”. First appeared in Phase 2.

Haruhi: A member of the human tribe, she has slightly-long blue hair and her attire consists mostly of light-blue, dark-blue, and yellow. In The World R:3, she is the second member of Samurai 7, and her Job Class is Valiant Archer. During a short absence from Samurai 7, Haruhi’s adopted a new PC body. Haruhi takes her role in Samurai 7 very seriously, usually acting and talking with an unsympathetic attitude. She follows any and all orders given to her by Kyuzo without question. Chibi-Usa: A member of the human tribe, she has whitish-yellow hair and her attire consists mostly of black and pink. One of the three “Epitaph Knights”, Endrance is one of the strictest system moderators and uses the power of the Epitaph to watch for hackers and any individuals who would seek to do The World harm. First appeared in Phase 6.

Hanabi: A member of the human tribe, she has long bright-red hair and her attire consists mostly of white and yellow. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Blade Brandier. Going by the nickname “Persistent Firecracker”, Hanabi aims to become the most powerful Blade Brandier in The World. In order to accomplish this, she challenges only the most powerful players and monsters to push herself towards the edge. First appeared in Phase 6.
In real life, her name is Reiori Kuramoto, and she’s the real-life younger sister of Chika Kuramoto, the player behind Alkaid.
Alkaid: A member of the human tribe, she has light-red hair and her attire consists mostly of black, white, and orange. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Ardent Corsair. A longtime player of The World, Alkaid’s recently changed her Job Class. Ever since the birth of her sister Reiori, Alkaid’s given her hand in raising her and has become not only a sister to Reiori, but also a mother. First appeared in Phase 6.
In real life, her name is Chika Kuramoto, and she’s the real-life older sister of Reiori Kuramoto, the player behind Hanabi.
Kaga: A member of the human tribe, he has spiky brown hair and his attire consists mostly of black and white. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Wave Templar. Like Coolidge, Kaga is a bit of a hothead, but is much more levelheaded and, at times, crafty. He’s also an expert at hunting down rare weapons. First appeared in Phase 7.

Claire: A member of the human tribe, she has long white hair and her attire consists mostly of black. In The World R:3, she is the third member of Samurai 7, and her Job Class is Tribal Grappler. The second-most wanted Blacklisted PK just under Kyuzo, Claire goes by the nickname “White Haze”, as a dense white fog always seems to generate when she approaches. She seems to have some history with Orion. First appeared in Phase 8.

Ren: A member of the exclusive Elven tribe, she has cerulean hair and her attire consists mostly of yellow and black. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Assault Ace. Ren is a very polite person, but also shy. At times, she can be very strong-minded and intelligent. Upon completing her second Job Extension quest, she appears slightly older and now has a more ceremonial attire. Her first chosen class as an Assault Ace is Flowing Melodist. Her lovely singing voice has made her extremely popular among male players in The World. In Phase 27, she is revealed to be the Factor User of Corbenik, the Rebirth. First appeared in Phase 8.

Nanao: A member of the Lei tribe, she has blond hair and her attire consists mostly of red and black. In The World R:3, she’s an expert treasure hunter, and her Job Class is Assault Ace. Nanao is a very straightforward person, as she’s not afraid to tell someone else the honest truth. She’s normally calm and composed, but when provoked, she becomes a ruthless killing machine. First appeared in Phase 10.

In The World R:3, she’s a passionate Arena fighter, and her Job Class is Twin Blade. Tsukiyomi is a kind, compassionate player who, like Hayate, is quick to help others, but when in the Arena, she gets very competitive. Her nickname is “Flower of Lumina Cloth”. She appears to have developed a crush on Kaga. First appeared in Phase 14.

Sakuya: A mysterious AI within the world, she has blond hair and her attire consists mostly of green and gray. She is Hayate’s twin sister. She was stillborn in the real world, but somehow her consciousness had entered The World. She gave her life to save Hayate and was reborn in him. Since then, Hayate’s been able to wield 2 blade swords. First appeared in Phase 5, but introduced in Phase 14.
Yata/Samekh: A member of the human tribe, he has shaved blond hair, dark skin, and his attire consists mostly of red and orange. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Dance Macabre. Yata is a complex individual, just as he was 20 years ago. Formerly known as Samekh, the sixth member of the Samurai 7, Yata resigned from the guild and, as of Phase 40, reassumed his position among the Epitaph Users as the Epitaph User of Fidchell, the Prophet. First appeared in Phase 14 as Samekh and Phase 40 as Yata.
In real life, his name is Takumi Hino, the same player behind Wiseman and Nala.
Ciel: A member of the human tribe, he has long brown hair and his attire consists mostly of red and brown. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Flick Reaper. Like Hayate, Ciel gets overly excited and is quite talkative. Unfortunately, it’s difficult for Ciel to be taken seriously at times, as he’s often mistaken as a girl player. First appeared in Phase 17.
In real life, his name is Shinji Misaki, and he’s the real-life son of Ryou Misaki, the player behind Haseo, and Shino Nanao, the player behind Shino.
Miharu: A member of the human tribe, she has short brown hair and her attire consists mostly of white, black, and gold. In The World R:3, she is the seventh member of Glaive LeGable, and her Job Class is Harvest Cleric/Shadow Warlock. Miharu is a powerful spellcaster and, thanks to her special PC body, is capable of learning both Harvest Cleric and Shadow Warlock spells. Like Hayate, she is a big fan of the “Karibu no Kaizoku” movie series. She appears to have developed feelings for Neon. First appeared in Phase 19.

His knowledge of all things in The World is on par with that of Samekh. First appeared in Phase 21.

Gwen: A member of the human tribe, she has short white hair and her attire consists mostly of white and dark-blue. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Lord Partizan. Having somewhat of a short temper, Gwen is very outspoken. Like Nanao, she’s not afraid to speak her mind and tell someone the absolute truth, whether or not they want to hear it. In Phase 26, she is revealed to be the Factor User of Tarvos, the Avenger. First appeared in Phase 26.

Kaeion: A mysterious AI within The World, he has short platinum hair and his attire consists mostly of white and black. His Job Class appears to be Assault Ace. After the destruction of his original body, Kaeion was brought back by Althena to combat data anomalies on behalf of the Epitaph Users. Upon being restored, Kaeion has a few extra weapons in his arsenal. First appeared in Phase 26, destroyed in Phase 42, and recreated in Phase 43.
Pi: A member of the human tribe, she has long, pink hair and her attire consists mostly of purple. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Tribal Grappler. Having decided to stop battling in The World, Pi had recently traded in her scantily-clad PC body for more of an intellectual, sophisticated look. Nowadays, her interests lie in the .hack//Arms and the meaning behind their existence, which inevitably leads her back to Haseo and the Epitaph Knights. First appeared in Phase 28.

Diamond Wolf: A member of the Lei tribe, he has long, platinum hair and his attire consists mostly of white, black, and purple. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Crystal Sage. Diamond Wolf is an interesting and enigmatic individual. His reasons for playing The World remain a mystery, but it is speculated that he plays in order to keep a watchful eye on his children, whose life are constantly put at risk because of the K-Anomaly. Some consider his actions, despite the reason behind them, to be intimidating and unorthodox. First appeared in Phase 29.

Usagi Waren: A member of the human tribe, she has long, golden hair and her attire consists mostly of white and red. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Hyper Ace, a slightly more advanced version of the Assault Ace. Going by the alias “Usagi of the Azure Moon”, Usagi is the current Empress of the Crystal Palace and is idolized by many arena frequenters, the majority of those players being male. She has a notoriously short temper, however, and is known for thrashing those who make her angry. First appeared in Phase 29.

Vyce is one of the most popular players in The World among female players. He is almost constantly under the overprotection of Endrance, but as a Factor User, he’s always trying to prove his strength so that Endrance would acknowledge his need for independence. In Phase 33, he is revealed to the Factor User of Macha, the Temptress. First appeared in Phase 33.

Natsuki: A member of the human tribe, she has short light-green hair and her attire consists mostly of light-blue and brown. Natsuki is a fun-loving, somewhat tomboyish character who, like her mother, enjoys hunting for rare items. She has laid in dormant sleep since then, until Kaeion, created by Althena herself, awakened her 2 decades later. Near the end of the series, Althena appears to have ascended to Ultimate AI status. Chibi-Usa: A member of the human tribe, she has whitish-yellow hair and her attire consists mostly of black and pink. In The World R:3, she is the fourth member of Glaive LeGable, and her Job Class is Assault Ace. Upon completing her second Job Extension quest, she now has shorter hair and wears a small blue cap. Chibi-Usa has split personalities; most of the time, she’s incredibly ditzy and acts childish; but in rare occasions, she has a heart of pure ice and is known to show absolutely no mercy to her foes. Aquitaine: A member of the Lei tribe, she has pink hair and his attire consists mostly of black and gold. In The World R:3, she is one of the most powerful PKers in Kestrel, and her Job Class is Dance Macabre. Most of the time, Aquitaine is a ruthless, cold-blooded killer, but that’s not to say that Aquitaine doesn’t have her compassionate side. At times, she’s known to spare the life of a player if she’s in good enough of a mood. First appeared in Phase 5.
In real life, her name is Amy Kircheis, and she is the real-life daughter of Nina Kircheis, the player behind Bordeaux.
Endrance: A member of the human tribe, he has blue hair and his attire consists mostly of light-armored silver. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Omniweapon, a more advanced version of the Assault Ace. One of the three “Epitaph Knights”, Endrance is one of the strictest system moderators and uses the power of the Epitaph to watch for hackers and any individuals who would seek to do The World harm. First appeared in Phase 6.

Hanabi: A member of the human tribe, she has long bright-red hair and her attire consists mostly of white and yellow. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Blade Brandier. Going by the nickname “Persistent Firecracker”, Hanabi aims to become the most powerful Blade Brandier in The World. In order to accomplish this, she challenges only the most powerful players and monsters to push herself towards the edge. First appeared in Phase 6.
In real life, her name is Reiori Kuramoto, and she’s the real-life younger sister of Chika Kuramoto, the player behind Alkaid.
Alkaid: A member of the human tribe, she has light-red hair and her attire consists mostly of black, white, and orange. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Ardent Corsair. A longtime player of The World, Alkaid’s recently changed her Job Class. Ever since the birth of her sister Reiori, Alkaid’s given her hand in raising her and has become not only a sister to Reiori, but also a mother. First appeared in Phase 6.
In real life, her name is Chika Kuramoto, and she’s the real-life older sister of Reiori Kuramoto, the player behind Hanabi.
Kaga: A member of the human tribe, he has spiky brown hair and his attire consists mostly of black and white. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Wave Templar. Like Coolidge, Kaga is a bit of a hothead, but is much more levelheaded and, at times, crafty. He’s also an expert at hunting down rare weapons. First appeared in Phase 7.

Claire: A member of the human tribe, she has long white hair and her attire consists mostly of black. In The World R:3, she is the third member of Samurai 7, and her Job Class is Tribal Grappler. The second-most wanted Blacklisted PK just under Kyuzo, Claire goes by the nickname “White Haze”, as a dense white fog always seems to generate when she approaches. She seems to have some history with Orion. First appeared in Phase 8.
In real life, her name is Makoto Chiba.
Ren: A member of the exclusive Elven tribe, she has cerulean hair and her attire consists mostly of yellow and black. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Assault Ace. Ren is a very polite person, but also shy. At times, she can be very strong-minded and intelligent. Upon completing her second Job Extension quest, she appears slightly older and now has a more ceremonial attire. Her first chosen class as an Assault Ace is Flowing Melodist. Her lovely singing voice has made her extremely popular among male players in The World. In Phase 27, she is revealed to be the Factor User of Corbenik, the Rebirth. First appeared in Phase 8.

In Phase 38, she is revealed to be the Factor User of Innis, the Mirage of Deceit. First appeared in Phase 9.
In real life, his name is Aylia Calahan, and she’s the real-life daughter of Chigusa Kusaka, the player behind Atoli, and Alexander Calahan, the player behind Ovan.
Nanao: A member of the Lei tribe, she has blond hair and her attire consists mostly of red and black. In The World R:3, she’s an expert treasure hunter, and her Job Class is Assault Ace. Nanao is a very straightforward person, as she’s not afraid to tell someone else the honest truth. She’s normally calm and composed, but when provoked, she becomes a ruthless killing machine. First appeared in Phase 10.

Haseo: A member of the human tribe, he has platinum hair and his attire consists mostly of silver, yellow, and black. One of the three “Epitaph Knights”, Haseo is a very serious person and won’t hesitate to strike in order to uphold the laws of The World. First appeared in Phase 11.

Tsukiyomi: A member of the human tribe, she has black hair and her scanty attire consists mostly of blue and white. In The World R:3, she’s a passionate Arena fighter, and her Job Class is Twin Blade. Tsukiyomi is a kind, compassionate player who, like Hayate, is quick to help others, but when in the Arena, she gets very competitive. Her nickname is “Flower of Lumina Cloth”. She appears to have developed a crush on Kaga. First appeared in Phase 14.
In real life, her name is Asuna Yagami.
Sakuya: A mysterious AI within the world, she has blond hair and her attire consists mostly of green and gray. She is Hayate’s twin sister. She was stillborn in the real world, but somehow her consciousness had entered The World. She gave her life to save Hayate and was reborn in him. Since then, Hayate’s been able to wield 2 blade swords. First appeared in Phase 5, but introduced in Phase 14.
Yata/Samekh: A member of the human tribe, he has shaved blond hair, dark skin, and his attire consists mostly of red and orange. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Dance Macabre. Yata is a complex individual, just as he was 20 years ago. Formerly known as Samekh, the sixth member of the Samurai 7, Yata resigned from the guild and, as of Phase 40, reassumed his position among the Epitaph Users as the Epitaph User of Fidchell, the Prophet. First appeared in Phase 14 as Samekh and Phase 40 as Yata.
In real life, his name is Takumi Hino, the same player behind Wiseman and Nala.
Ciel: A member of the human tribe, he has long brown hair and his attire consists mostly of red and brown. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Flick Reaper. Like Hayate, Ciel gets overly excited and is quite talkative. Unfortunately, it’s difficult for Ciel to be taken seriously at times, as he’s often mistaken as a girl player. First appeared in Phase 17.
In real life, his name is Shinji Misaki, and he’s the real-life son of Ryou Misaki, the player behind Haseo, and Shino Nanao, the player behind Shino.
Miharu: A member of the human tribe, she has short brown hair and her attire consists mostly of white, black, and gold. In The World R:3, she is the seventh member of Glaive LeGable, and her Job Class is Harvest Cleric/Shadow Warlock. Miharu is a powerful spellcaster and, thanks to her special PC body, is capable of learning both Harvest Cleric and Shadow Warlock spells. Like Hayate, she is a big fan of the “Karibu no Kaizoku” movie series. She appears to have developed feelings for Neon. First appeared in Phase 19.
In real life, her name is Mikan Tachibana.

Ovan: A member of the human tribe, she has platinum hair and his attire consists mostly of white, yellow, and black. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Omniweapon, a more advanced version of the Assault Ace. One of the three “Epitaph Knights”, Ovan is the eldest of the three and also the most intellectual. His knowledge of all things in The World is on par with that of Samekh. First appeared in Phase 21.
In real life, his name is Alexander Calahan.
Gwen: A member of the human tribe, she has short white hair and her attire consists mostly of white and dark-blue. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Lord Partizan. Having somewhat of a short temper, Gwen is very outspoken. Like Nanao, she’s not afraid to speak her mind and tell someone the absolute truth, whether or not they want to hear it. In Phase 26, she is revealed to be the Factor User of Tarvos, the Avenger. First appeared in Phase 26.
Not much is known about Gwen in the real world other than the fact that her first name is Kel.
Kaeion: A mysterious AI within The World, he has short platinum hair and his attire consists mostly of white and black. His Job Class appears to be Assault Ace. After the destruction of his original body, Kaeion was brought back by Althena to combat data anomalies on behalf of the Epitaph Users. Upon being restored, Kaeion has a few extra weapons in his arsenal. First appeared in Phase 26, destroyed in Phase 42, and recreated in Phase 43.
Pi: A member of the human tribe, she has long, pink hair and her attire consists mostly of purple. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Tribal Grappler. Having decided to stop battling in The World, Pi had recently traded in her scantily-clad PC body for more of an intellectual, sophisticated look. Nowadays, her interests lie in the .hack//Arms and the meaning behind their existence, which inevitably leads her back to Haseo and the Epitaph Knights. First appeared in Phase 28.
In real life, her name is Reiko Saeki.
Diamond Wolf: A member of the Lei tribe, he has long, platinum hair and his attire consists mostly of white, black, and purple. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Crystal Sage. Diamond Wolf is an interesting and enigmatic individual. His reasons for playing The World remain a mystery, but it is speculated that he plays in order to keep a watchful eye on his children, whose life are constantly put at risk because of the K-Anomaly. Some consider his actions, despite the reason behind them, to be intimidating and unorthodox. First appeared in Phase 29.
In real life, his name is Sephiroth Xion, and he’s the real-life father of Shiro Xion, the player behind Neon, and Serena Xion, the player behind Chibi-Usa.
Usagi Waren: A member of the human tribe, she has long, golden hair and her attire consists mostly of white and red. In The World R:3, her Job Class is Hyper Ace, a slightly more advanced version of the Assault Ace. Going by the alias “Usagi of the Azure Moon”, Usagi is the current Empress of the Crystal Palace and is idolized by many arena frequenters, the majority of those players being male. She has a notoriously short temper, however, and is known for thrashing those who make her angry. First appeared in Phase 29.
In real life, her name is Usagi Tsukino Xion, and she’s the real-life mother of Shiro Xion, the player behind Neon, and Serena Xion, the player behind Chibi-Usa.

He strongly believes in the philosophy that the players of The World today need to seek independence from the players of years past. Considering his position, Dekar is quite possibly the most powerful player in The World. First appeared in Phase 31.
In real life, his name is Nathan Tengen, and he’s the real-life father of Samantha Tengen, the player behind Ren, as well as chief executive of CC Corp.
Vyce: A member of the Lei tribe, he has short white hair and his attire consists mostly of white, red, and armored silver. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Wave Templar. Vyce is one of the most popular players in The World among female players. He is almost constantly under the overprotection of Endrance, but as a Factor User, he’s always trying to prove his strength so that Endrance would acknowledge his need for independence. In Phase 33, he is revealed to the Factor User of Macha, the Temptress. First appeared in Phase 33.
In real life, his name is Tetsuro Ichinose, and he’s the real-life son of Kaoru Ichinose, the player behind Endrance.
Natsuki: A member of the human tribe, she has short light-green hair and her attire consists mostly of light-blue and brown. In The World R:3, she is the seventh member of the Samurai 7, and her Job Class is Twin Blade. Natsuki is a fun-loving, somewhat tomboyish character who, like her mother, enjoys hunting for rare items. To the surprise of everyone around her, she develops a friendly relationship with Piros VIII, who she finds amusing rather than stupid. First appeared in Phase 36.
In real life, her name is Natsuki Oguro, and she’s the real-life daughter of Natsume Oguro, the player behind Natsume. She even inherited Natsume’s Player Character.
Zenjiro: A member of the human tribe, he has short spiky brown hair and his attire consists mostly of blue and white. In The World R:3, his Job Class is Dance Macabre. Like his Epitaph User predecessor, Zenjiro is an insightful and intellectual person. However, he has the tendency to show indifference and laxness towards others and the activities which he conducts. In Phase 40, he is revealed to be the new Factor User of Fidchell, the Prophet – having become so after Fidchell’s original Factor User was destroyed by Kaeion. First appeared in Phase 39.
In real life, his name is Kojiro Sanada.
Althena: A mysterious AI within The World, she has long violet hair and her attire consists mostly of white, blue, and light purple. Long ago, during CC Corp.’s R.A. Plan, it was Althena’s infection by AIDA that led to the deletion of 80% of The World’s data and caused Jyotaro Amagi to go insane and cause the fire at the CC Corp. building. She has laid in dormant sleep since then, until Kaeion, created by Althena herself, awakened her 2 decades later. Near the end of the series, Althena appears to have ascended to Ultimate AI status. First appeared in Phase 42.
