~Kawaru’s home~
*Kawaru’s door swings open and Kazuto enters. The loud noise wakes up Kawaru and startled he immediately sits up in bed. He then looks over an glares at Kazuto rubbing his eyes*
Kawaru: What is it, Kazuto?
Kazuto: Aylia finally woke up.
*Upon hearing this, Kawaru shoots up and jumps out of bed. He quickly puts on a pair of sweatpants, not wanting to give Aylia the wrong idea by running in, in his boxers and runs to her room*
Kazuto: Hey Kawaru, wait a—
Kawaru: Aylia.
*He opens the door and finds himself staring at a half-naked Aylia. She had wanted to change clothes quickly as she had been in the same pair for two and a half days, since all the other residents were boys they felt awkward about doing it*
Aylia: Kawaru?
*Since she was still wearing a bra and panties, Aylia, instead of moving to cover herself, holds an open palm towards Kawaru*
Kawaru: Huh?
Aylia: Radiant Solas.
*Kawaru jumps to the side just in time as a ray of solar energy hits the wall behind where he used to be standing. The attack didn’t cause serious damage to the wall, but scorch marks remained. If Kawaru has been hit, he’s probably be covered in second degree burns*
Aylia: Kawaru, I’m not in the mood for this.
*Kawaru had been cringing, expecting to be scolded and called a pervert, but her somber voice caught him off guard. He hears Aylia’s foot steps as she goes to the door and closes it*
Kawaru: What…just happened?
*As Kawaru sits in shock, Kazuto walks up behind him*
Kazuto: She’s probably still exhausted.
Kawaru: Is that really all?
Kazuto: Yeah, she woke up and asked my to bring her some clothes, then asked me what had happened and if there had been any new developments while you two were unconscious.
Kawaru: Were there?
Kazuto: …No.
*Kawaru notes the hesitation in Kazuto’s voice but decides not to press the issue*
Kawaru: Well, whatever.
*Kawaru goes to the bathroom to take a shower, but as he turns the knob he’s stopped by a voice*
Aylia: Kawaru, thank you.
*Kawaru turns and sees Aylia she was dressed in jeans and a sleeveless black shirt. She looks up at him a little meekly*
Kawaru: Didn’t I promise to come save you if you were ever in danger?
*A shy smile crosses Aylia’s lips, Kawaru grins*
Aylia: That’s all I wanted to say.
Kawaru: Okay, see ya at breakfast.
*He turns the knob and enters the bathroom*
Kawaru: I wonder why everyone is acting so weird this morning.
*Kawaru begins taking his shower*
Kawaru: Well, it’s not like I never noticed it before, but Aylia really is cute. *sigh* I’ll miss having her around, but now that she can no longer compete in the war, there’s no reason for her to stay in Japan.
*Kawaru finishes his shower and gets dressed*
Kawaru: The only ones remaining are Saber, Berserker, and Assassin. Well, Jack is trustworthy; I don’t think it’ll be a bad thing if he’s the one who wins in the end. That means that the real enemy is Assassin.
*Kawaru thinks back to how easily Assassin had ended Sakaki’s life*
Kawaru: With only a single caster shell left, I’m in trouble.
Saber: Why do you say that?
*Saber leaves spirit form and is standing next to Kawaru*
Kawaru: The caster gun was my trump card and now I’ve only got one shell left.
Saber: I fail to see the problem, I have watched both Assassin and Berserker fight. Now that Lancer is gone, my strength alone should be enough to win this war.
Kawaru: Saber, we don’t even know who Assassin and Berserker are. If we’re not careful, we’ll end up the losers.
Kazuto: Are you two talking about the war this early in the morning? Give it a rest.
Kawaru: Fine, fine, coming.
*Kawaru and Saber enter the dinning room. As he enters, Kawaru makes eye contact with Aylia, but she looks away almost immediately*
Kawaru: Aylia? What’s wrong?
Aylia: Nothing. I’m just tired, that’s all.
Kawaru: Well, okay, if you say so.
*Kawaru walks over to the table and takes a seat then begins to eat the food Kazuto had made*
Kazuto: Hey, Saber, can you train with me again today?
Saber: I’m fine with it, but didn’t you mention you had something you needed to do?
Kazuto: Yeah, I wanna go back to my house and pick up my sword.
Saber: Your sword?
Kazuto: Yeah, it’s a family heirloom. I hadn’t originally intended on using it until after the war was over, but after this incident, I feel like I should have it just in case.
Saber: Sure, I’ll go with you to get it.
Kazuto: Yeah, but you should change into street clothes first.
Saber: Certainly.
*Saber walks off to change and Kazuto gets up from the table*
Kazuto: Listen, we won’t be back for a little while. You two’ll be okay on your own, right?
Kawaru: Of course.
Kazuto: Okay then. Come on, Saber, let’s get going.
*After a few minutes, Saber walks down the stairs in jeans and a short-sleeved shirt. Kazuto and Saber leave and Kawaru and Aylia wave goodbye to them. Aylia and Kawaru eat the remainder of their meal in silence*
Kawaru: Hey, Aylia, why are you being so quiet? You’re acting weird this morning. It’s more than just being disappointed or tired. What’s wrong?
Aylia: I’m not a master anymore.
Kawaru: Yeah, so?
Aylia: That means that there is no reason for me to remain in Japan.
*Kawaru stops. It’s not that he didn’t realize it - he had known it was going to happen, but still… Aylia really was going to leave. Countless thoughts flood his mind and the chopsticks in his hand drop to the floor*
Kawaru: I guess you’re right.
*Aylia’s eyes widen and it looks like they are beginning to fill with tears*
Kawaru: Aylia? I know it’s sad, but…
*Not wanting to hear anymore, Aylia gets up from the table and heads up to the room she was staying in. Kawaru says nothing and merely stares at his food for several moments*
Kawaru: I really am an idiot.
*Kawaru gets up and puts his dishes in the sink, then he walks over to the front door and puts his shoes on*
Kawaru: Hey, Aylia, I’m going out for a bit!
*Kawaru opens the door and leaves. As he does, he thinks he hears Aylia’s voice calling him “idiot” from her room but he quickly dismisses it as his imagination*
Kawaru: Well, I guess I’ll go goof off for a bit. Anything’s better than staying here and feeling guilty.
*Kawaru walks to the shopping district and goes to the park, he finds a bench and lays down on it when he hears someone calling his name*
Jack: Hey, Kawaru. Still alive, I see.
Kawaru: I could say the same to you.
Jack: What’s up? Not with Aylia or Archer today?
Kawaru: Nope. I decided I needed to clear my head on my own.
Jack: Oh. Then you must have heard.
Kawaru: Heard what?
Jack: Sako’s coming back the day after tomorrow.
*Kawaru sits up suddenly in surprise*
Kawaru: What?
Jack: You didn’t know? She said she had called you house and left a message for you.
Kawaru: I haven’t checked my messages recently.
Jack: Oh. Well, either way, isn’t it great news?
Kawaru: Well, kinda.
Jack: What do you mean? The three of us are finally going to be reunited again.
Kawaru: Well, I mean she’s coming in the middle of the war. It just seems like bad timing.
Jack: I suppose, but either way, I’m excited.
Kawaru: Me too.
Jack: Well if it’s not that, then what’s wrong?
*Jack looks at his friend concerned. Kawaru gets off the bench and smiles*
Kawaru: Hey, Jack, let’s go kill some time.
Jack: Sure. It’s been a while since just you and I hung out. Though it’d be nicer if we had a delicate flower to help set both our minds at ease.
Kawaru: Nah, just the two of us should hang out. It’ll probably be the last chance since Sako’s coming back.
Jack: Whatever you say, man.
*The two of them go and kill time at the arcade for a few hours, and then go and look at a nearby comic book store. Jack looks over at Kawaru and notices his friend’s worried expression*
Jack: Kawaru, what’s wrong?
Kawaru: What do you mean? Nothing’s wrong.
Jack: Don’t feed me that crap. I’ve known you for to long not to notice when you’re depressed.
Kawaru: I’m telling you nothing’s wrong.
*Jack stops walking and glares at Kawaru*
Jack: Listen, the final fight of this war is going to be you against me, and I don’t want any excuses when I wipe the floor with you. So I’ll ask you one last time - What’s bothering you?
*Kawaru sighs*
Kawaru: Aylia is no longer a master.
Jack: What?
Kawaru: She used all three command spells and has lost her ability to make a contract with a servant.
*Jack stares at Kawaru*
Jack: So what’s she going to do?
Kawaru: We talked this morning about it. She said that now that she could no longer win the war, she should go home.
Jack: And what did you do?
Kawaru: Huh? Well, I didn’t want her to be in danger so I told her I thought it was a good idea. But I think I said something that made her mad.
Jack: …Are you really that ignorant?
Kawaru: What are you talking about?
Jack: Kawaru, you really want Aylia to leave and to return to your old way of life?
Kawaru: It’s not about what I want. It’s about the best course of action.
Jack: Then tell me, what do you want?
*Kawaru stares at Jack with a surprised expression on his face. It was rare for Jack to be so serious, but more than that, he had to figure it out himself. What did he really want Aylia to do?*
Kawaru: I…I don’t know, but I don’t want Aylia to be in danger.
*Jack walks over to Kawaru and suddenly punches him in the face with all his strength*
Jack: YOU IDIOT!!!
*Kawaru looks dazed at Jack for a moment, but quickly regains sense of himself*
Kawaru: What are you doing!?
Jack: I’m trying to knock some sense into you!
Kawaru: What do you mean!?
Jack: All you’re doing is running away. I can tell - you’re scared of it.
*Kawaru gets back up onto his feet*
Kawaru: What do you mean?
Jack: I guess I’ll have to tell you how you feel! You don’t want Aylia to be safe! You want her to be with you, but you’re scared! You’re scared of what could happen!
*Kawaru suddenly punches Jack in the stomach causing him to double over*
Kawaru: Shut up! You don’t know what you’re talking about!
Jack: “What if she says no? What if I can’t protect her? What if she disappears?”
*Jack gets back to his feet and again slugs Kawaru in the face, but this time Kawaru stayed on his feet*
Jack: Take a goddamn chance for once!
*Kawaru stops not because he was hit, but because Jack was absolutely right*
Kawaru: I wonder when it happened.
Jack: What are you talking about now?
Kawaru: We’ve only been together for a little over a week. How could she have become such… When did she stop being a temporary ally and become someone who I truly care about?
*Kawaru clenches his fists so tight that Jack expected his hands to bleed*
Jack: Tell me - did Aylia tell you when she was leaving?
*Kawaru suddenly snaps out of his trance and looks up at Jack*
Kawaru: No, she didn’t.
Jack: Then you may still be able to catch her.
Kawaru: Huh?
Jack: You really are an idiot… Aylia told you she was leaving in the hopes you would stop her. She wants YOU to ask her to stay!
*Kawaru stands staring blankly for a few minutes. He had suddenly come back to reality and looks around realizing that quite a crowd had gathered around them. Paying no heed, Kawaru begins to push through the crowd and sprints home*
Jack: Sorry, Sako.
Kawaru: Why didn’t I realize it?
*Kawaru’s cheek throbs where Jack had hit him*
Kawaru: Am I really that big of an idiot?
*An image of the 5 year old Sako runs through his head*
Kawaru: I’m sorry, Sako. You wanted me to try and stop you, didn’t you? All I did was try and cheer you up. Jack knew all along and tried to tell me back then. Well, I won’t let my stupidity drive away another person I hold dear! Never again!
*Kawaru finally reaches his house; he could tell Kazuto and Saber were already back. He swings open the door, nearly ripping it off its hinges. Kazuto turns to him*
Kazuto: Kawaru, Aylia—
*Kawaru brushes him off and barrels up the stairs and opens to door to the room Aylia was staying in. His eyes widen as he realizes the room is empty*
Kawaru: No.
*Kawaru quickly searches the entire house, not even listening to Kazuto. He was sure if he listened, Kazuto would tell him that Aylia had left, but he didn’t want to hear it. If he did, then he would have to accept she was gone*
Kawaru: …She really isn’t here anymore, is she?
*Kawaru didn’t want to believe it. He had come too late*
Kawaru: I was too late again. But it won’t end here though. I’ll go and find her after the war. After all, the magic association should be able to tell me if I call in some of the Tosaka’s connections.
Kazuto: Kawaru.
Kawaru: Kazuto, can you please leave me alone for a bit?
Kazuto: But I’ve got something to tell you.
Kawaru: It’s okay I already know about it, Sako’s coming.
Kazuto: Huh? Well, yeah, that, but also Aylia—
*Kawaru didn’t want to listen anymore. He tuned out Kazuto’s voice and entered his room, but when he enters, his eyes widen. Aylia was sitting on his bed entirely wrapped in his blanket. He stands there staring at her in shock*
Aylia: I’m sorry, Kawaru. I know I said I’d be leaving but…
Kawaru: …Aylia.
Aylia: …But I don’t want to go back to how I used to live. I don’t want to be alone anymore again. That’s why just for a little longer, let me stay… Please…
*Kawaru’s mouth felt dry. He didn’t know what he should do. He could hear her sobbing from under the blanket, and he could see her shaking. Aylia had been suffering so much and it was his fault. He had no right to be with her. He knew this, but still…*
Kawaru: …Aylia, I’m sorry.
*He walks over to the bed and embraces her*
Aylia: Kawaru?
Kawaru: You can stay here as long as you want. Or rather, I don’t want you to leave. I’ve enjoyed everyday you’ve been here. I don’t want things to return to the way they were.
Aylia: …Thank you.
*This scene goes on for several more minute before Kawaru’s hand move up and removes the blanket from her head, revealing her face. Her eyes were red and her face was stained with tears. She looks at him and closes her eyes. His eyes focus on her slightly parted lips and his face slowly moves closer to hers. Then, when his lips were about an inch away from hers, a voice calls out:*
Kazuto: Aylia, it’s your turn to cook tonight!
*Kawaru stops. Aylia wiggles away from him, wiping her eyes with her sleeve, and smiles*
Aylia: Looks like you missed your chance.
Kawaru: I guess so. That was kinda a mood killer, huh?
*Kawaru sighs a little disappointed. But he still he was happy she hadn’t left. All he could do was sit on his bed with a goofy grin and be thankful he was lucky this time*
*Kawaru’s door swings open and Kazuto enters. The loud noise wakes up Kawaru and startled he immediately sits up in bed. He then looks over an glares at Kazuto rubbing his eyes*
