Chapter 8: Climax
Shiro and company look on at who would most likely be the most powerful foe they’ve ever faced: Lucius, the king of darkness. Lucius looks on at the group holding in each of his hands a double-edged Keyblade.
Lucius “Hehehe… Forgive me if I seem a bit flushed.”
Shiro “Hmm?”
Lucius “It’s a rare occasion indeed in which I’ve faced a twilight walker… He who walks both the paths of light and dark…”
Shiro “Tch! I don’t know whether I should feel flattered or disgusted…”
Seifer “Enough with the pleasantries! Let’s get this party started already!!”
Yuffie “I wholeheartedly agree!!”
Lucius’ dark aura begins to intensify.
Lucius “Well then… Shall we begin?”
In an instant, Lucius vanishes into thin air. Shiro and the others frantically try to locate him, not knowing where he’ll strike first.
Ayane “Where’d he go?”
Leon “He’s the king of darkness! He could be anywhere!!”
Mickey “…Huh? Above!!”
Looking up, the party notices Lucius swinging his Keyblades downward.
Shiro “SCATTER!!!”
The party immediately spreads out before Lucius could strike. Lucius plunges into the ground, creating a great crater.
Leon “NOW!”
In that instant, everyone begins their assault on Lucius. They barrage him with various spells: Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, Water, Gravity – everything they had in their arsenal.
Xavi “Eat this, ‘your Majesty’!!”
As soon as the barrage ends, the smoke clears, and Lucius stands at the center of the crater he created, unscathed.
Ayane “We didn’t even faze him!”
Shiro “Not yet, we didn’t!”
Shiro then starts a solo assault on Lucius, charging at him head-on.
Shiro “I learned this move from Cloud! Hyper Climhazzard!”
In a blinding flash, Shiro assails Lucius with lightning-fast slashes, all of which hit their mark flawlessly. Then, Shiro jumps high into the air…
Shiro “Now, for the finish!”
…and finishes up with a falling slash that knocks Lucius clear across the room and sends him crashing into a wall.
Shiro “Bulls-eye!!”
Yuffie “Nice work!”
Mickey “Excellent!”
Lucius “Hehehehe…”
Xavi “He’s…laughing? Why’s he laughing? I hate it when they laugh!”
Lucius “So this…is the power of a twilight walker… Truly impressive…”
Lucius gets up to his feet and dusts himself off.
Lucius “I underestimated you. But it won’t happen again, I assure you.”
Ayane (gulp)
Lucius “Let’s continue then.”
The same as before, Lucius vanishes into thin air. He reappears milliseconds later in front of Yuffie.
Yuffie (gasp)
All “Yuffie!!”
Scared for her life, Yuffie swings her shuriken at Lucius. …He vanishes again.
Yuffie “Huh?”
Lucius “I sense fear in your attacks…”
Yuffie “Where are you!?”
He reappears behind her this time. But before Yuffie could retaliate, Lucius went on the offensive, bombarding her body with blinding-fast slashes of his Keyblades.
Yuffie “Unh! Ugh! Ahh! Oof! Uhh! Unh! Ugh!”
Xavi could watch no more. He rushes at Lucius with every fiber of rage in his being.
Xavi “Lucius, you son of a--”
In that split second, Lucius blows Yuffie away into a wall and redirects his attack at Xavi.
Xavi “Unh! Gah! Uhh! Uhh! Oof! Ugh! Urgh!”
Leon “He’s so fast!!”
Ayane “………There!”
Luckily, Ayane finds a thin opening in Lucius’ defense and strikes him with a Thundaga.
Lucius “Gah!!”
Ayane “Gotcha!”
Lucius “Grrrr… You little insects! I’ve toyed with you lesser beings for FAR TOO LONG!!!”
Lucius drapes himself in his own arms and his aura becomes increasingly thick. He then releases it in a great burst of energy, covering the entire area in black.
Mickey “Wha… What is this!?”
Mickey finds Lucius confronting him face to face.
Mickey (gasp)
Lucius “Your Majesty, King Mickey… We meet at last… I only wish it were under different circumstances…”
Mickey “You smug, little--”
Before Mickey could even move, Lucius simply swings his Keyblades through him, as if causing every cell of power in Mickey to disappear.
Mickey (deep gasp)
Lucius “Sleep…and never awaken…”
By the time Lucius’ field of darkness dissipated, he had done the same with Leon, Yuffie, and Xavi. Only Shiro, Ayane, and Seifer were left standing.
Lucius “This is almost too easy…”
Seifer “That’s it! No one’s supposed to defeat Squall but me!!”
Seifer charges at Lucius in an all-or-nothing move.
Shiro “Seifer, wait!!”
Seifer “FIRE CROSS!!”
In a great whirlwind of flames, Seifer swings his gunblade relentlessly. The final hit was a gigantic explosion of fire.
Seifer “Gotcha that time! …Huh!?”
When the smoke dissipates, Seifer sees that Lucius emerged from that attack with his clothes only slightly singed.
Lucius “Hmph… That tickled…”
Seifer “No… It can’t be… That was…my most powerful attack…”
Lucius “Think of it this way, young one… At least you’ll be dying at the hands of the person who defeated your rival… You and he will at last be equals…”
Lucius walks up to Seifer and places his hand on his forehead. A massive amount of dark energy is released from Lucius’ palm, blowing the back of Seifer’s mind. It didn’t kill him, but it was enough to knock him out cold.
Ayane “Shiro, everyone is…”
Shiro “I know. Just stay behind me.”
Lucius “How touching… How I detest human affections… It’s time I ended this…”
Shiro “I don’t get it, Lucius. My friends are all just unconscious. If you have the power to, why not just kill them?”
Lucius “I enjoy prolonging the suffering of my victims. Consider me old-fashioned. Now then…”
Lucius dashes at Shiro at full speed.
Lucius “PREPARE TO DIE!!!”
Shiro “Don’t think so! Dark Sonic Blade!!”
Shiro and Lucius charge through each other at the exact same velocity. Utter silence…
Shiro “…”
Lucius “…” (deep gasp)
Shiro “Gotcha…”
Lucius drops to his knees and clenches his right chest area, which was now dripping blood.
Lucius “Im… Impossible… How could he… How could he strike me that easily!?”
Shiro “Hmph.” (gasp)
Just then, Shiro falls to his knees as well and coughs up blood.
Shiro “So… He did land that attack…”
Lucius “You’ll pay for this, you insignificant… YAH!!”
Lucius makes a quick turnabout and leaps at Shiro, swinging his Keyblades downward. Shiro retaliates by spinning around and defending with the Wings of Exile.
Lucius “WHAT IS IT!? What is it that makes you so resilient?!? You’re only a mere human!!”
Shiro “It’s because we’re human that we’re so powerful!!”
Lucius “Excuse me!?!?”
Shiro shakes off Lucius’ Keyblades momentarily, giving him an ample opportunity to fire three Dark Firaga spells at him.
Shiro “You’ll never defeat me!”
Lucius “I’m… I’m losing? This…cannot be…happening…!”
Lucius was too exhausted to anticipate Shiro’s next move: The Wings of Exile is thrust straight through his stomach. Lucius’ eyes showed no response. When Shiro removes his Keyblade from his enemy, a great hole inside Lucius is created.
Lucius “No… I cannot lose… I refuse to lose!! …Huh?”
Then, Lucius remembers Ayane, who was standing just a few feet behind him.
Lucius “Yes… Of course…”
Ayane “Huh?”
Lucius “Come…to me…”
Ayane “Wh-What?!?”
Suddenly, an unexplainable force begins to draw Ayane towards Lucius. Once she gets close enough, Lucius grabs her by the throat.
Lucius “Give me…your energy… Your life force!!”
Ayane (gasp) “Can’t…breathe… Sh-Shiro…!”
Shiro “Ayane!!”
Gradually, Ayane’s body begins to lose its color, her very soul being sucked out of her. Her body soon turns completely gray and, once Lucius releases his grip on her, she falls limply onto the ground. The hole in Lucius’ gut had sealed up, like it was never there.
Lucius (deep breathe) “Ahhhh… The souls of humans are like precious blood to me…”
Shiro “Ayane! Ayane!!”
Shiro dashes over to Ayane’s side. He takes her into his arms and attempts to awaken her. Her eyes were wide-open, but utterly lifeless.
Shiro “Ayane!!! Ayane, please!! Don’t leave me!!!”
Ayane “…”
Shiro “Ayane!! Ayane…?”
He rests his hand on her cheek, but it was ice-cold. She had absolutely no life in her left.
Shiro “Ayane… No, Ayane!! You can’t be…! AYAAAAAANEEEEEE!!!!!!”
Lucius “Enough, child!! She’s gone!! And she’s not coming back!! But…”
Lucius, now fully replenished, raises his hand to strike Shiro…
Lucius “…if you wish to be with her that badly, I’ll be happy to oblige!!!”
Shiro “Ayane…”
…but his hand falls short of its target, freezing it in place.
Lucius “What!? What is this force!?!”
Shiro’s dark/light aura is burning ever brightly now.
Lucius “Wh-What’s going on here?!?”
Shiro “You… You killed her…”
Shiro slowly rises to his feet and turns to face Lucius with closed eyes.
Shiro “Ayane… You killed Ayane…”
Lucius “Wha… What are you?”
Shiro “Ayane…was the one person…who believed in me until the end… No matter what challenge I faced, she was there to face it with me… She respected me… I respected her! I cherished her!! But that’s…”
Shiro glares at Lucius with unforgiving eyes.
Shiro “THAT’S SOMETHING A PERSON LIKE YOU COULD NEVER UNDERSTAND!!!!!!”
Lucius “This power…! It’s unlike anything I’ve ever felt before!!! THIS is the true power of a twilight walker!?!?”
Just as in the fight with Midiyus, Shiro’s outfit changes in appearance and his hair sways in an inexistent wind. He draws the Wings of Exile and raises it high above him. Then, everyone’s remaining power starts to flow out of their bodies and into the Keyblade. In a bright flash of energy, Shiro’s outfit changes in appearance again, but this time, it was bright white streaked with black. His hair was now swaying upward to resemble a flame. Also, his dark/light aura was burning ever strongly.
Lucius “You… You’re not human!!!”
Shiro “You’re wrong. I’m 100% human. Something you’ll never hope to be.”
As Shiro raises the Wings of Exile high above him again, Mickey’s gold Kingdom Key, Ayane’s Relinquishing Light, Xavi’s Xerxes Force, Leon’s and Seifer’s gunblades, and Yuffie’s shuriken all float off the ground and circle around him.
Shiro “I call upon the powers of light and dark!! Combine my strength with that of my friends so that I may strike down this scourge of the universe!!”
The five weapons all circle around the Wings of Exile and converge to create an entirely new weapon. This new Keyblade greatly resembled Sora’s Ultima Weapon, but its handle was black, and the mesh covering its blade was bright white. At the bottom of the Keychain was a silver heart with a golden insignia of Disney Castle at its center.
Shiro “This is the instrument of your destruction, Lucius… ‘Holy Judgment’.”
Lucius “No… NO!!! I won’t let you defeat me!!!!”
Lucius charges at Shiro with his double-edged Keyblades…
Lucius “Take this!!”
…but, just before the Keyblades strike Shiro, he rapidly shifts to the side, causing Lucius to go past him. Right before Lucius is out of arm’s reach, Shiro grabs the back of Lucius’ collar, spins around like a hurricane, and flings his body towards the ceiling. The intense speed of the throw causes Lucius to crash through the ceiling and into the depths of interspace. Just before Lucius goes hurling into the abyss, he uses the powers of darkness to stop himself and float in midair.
Lucius “That little… Huh?”
Lucius wouldn’t be alone for long, as Shiro uses the powers of darkness to fly as well and follow Lucius into interspace through the opening in the Nest of Evil’s ceiling.
Shiro “…Now, Lucius… The time of your judgment has come.”
Lucius “I am the king of darkness!! How dare you condescend me!!”
Lucius rushes at Shiro with his Keyblades again, prompting Shiro to defend with the Holy Judgment. He swings his Keyblades continually at Shiro, but Shiro fends off the attacks as if they were nothing.
Lucius “You can’t be this powerful!! No human could ever be this powerful!!”
Shiro “You’d be surprised at what humans are capable of…”
Lucius backs off for a second and starts to fly around Shiro, relentlessly firing fireballs of darkness. The fireballs fade away even before striking Shiro, colliding with an invisible shield.
Lucius “All right! No more games!!”
In a desperation attempt, Lucius combines his two double-edged Keyblades into one great Keyblade, one as large as a Poltergeist Darkling’s blade. Shiro simply gazes at the blade with a blank expression. Lucius swings the gigantic Keyblade at Shiro…
Lucius “DIE!!!!”
…but, with just one simple swipe of the Holy Judgment, Shiro snaps the Keyblade in half. Lucius watches in horror as the Keyblade’s upper half floats away into the nothingness of interspace.
Lucius “…”
Shiro “You’ve lost, Lucius… Accept your defeat…”
Lucius “…”
Shiro “Ethereal Heart.”
Backing away from Lucius, Shiro aims the Holy Judgment straight at him and fires a great blast of light at Lucius.
Lucius ‘This feeling…of defeat… It’s so new to me, and yet…relieving…’
Lucius’ body instantly vanishes into oblivion. Shiro returns inside the Nest of Evil and looks at his fallen allies.
Shiro “Holy Judgment… I thank you from the bottom of my heart… Now, please, return the souls of these fallen ones…”
A great flash, and Shiro turns back into his old self. The immense power of the Holy Judgment splits off into six. Each of these fragments of energy flows into the bodies of Shiro’s friends. Relieved of this vast strength, Shiro almost immediately passes out on the floor.
Shiro “…It’s…finally over…”

Right before Lucius is out of arm’s reach, Shiro grabs the back of Lucius’ collar, spins around like a hurricane, and flings his body towards the ceiling. The intense speed of the throw causes Lucius to crash through the ceiling and into the depths of interspace. Just before Lucius goes hurling into the abyss, he uses the powers of darkness to stop himself and float in midair.
Lucius “That little… Huh?”
Lucius wouldn’t be alone for long, as Shiro uses the powers of darkness to fly as well and follow Lucius into interspace through the opening in the Nest of Evil’s ceiling.
Shiro “…Now, Lucius… The time of your judgment has come.”
Lucius “I am the king of darkness!! How dare you condescend me!!”
Lucius rushes at Shiro with his Keyblades again, prompting Shiro to defend with the Holy Judgment. He swings his Keyblades continually at Shiro, but Shiro fends off the attacks as if they were nothing.
Lucius “You can’t be this powerful!! No human could ever be this powerful!!”
Shiro “You’d be surprised at what humans are capable of…”
Lucius backs off for a second and starts to fly around Shiro, relentlessly firing fireballs of darkness. The fireballs fade away even before striking Shiro, colliding with an invisible shield.
Lucius “All right! No more games!!”
In a desperation attempt, Lucius combines his two double-edged Keyblades into one great Keyblade, one as large as a Poltergeist Darkling’s blade. Shiro simply gazes at the blade with a blank expression. Lucius swings the gigantic Keyblade at Shiro…
Lucius “DIE!!!!”
…but, with just one simple swipe of the Holy Judgment, Shiro snaps the Keyblade in half. Lucius watches in horror as the Keyblade’s upper half floats away into the nothingness of interspace.
Lucius “…”
Shiro “You’ve lost, Lucius… Accept your defeat…”
Lucius “…”
Shiro “Ethereal Heart.”
Backing away from Lucius, Shiro aims the Holy Judgment straight at him and fires a great blast of light at Lucius.
Lucius ‘This feeling…of defeat… It’s so new to me, and yet…relieving…’
Lucius’ body instantly vanishes into oblivion. Shiro returns inside the Nest of Evil and looks at his fallen allies.
Shiro “Holy Judgment… I thank you from the bottom of my heart… Now, please, return the souls of these fallen ones…”
A great flash, and Shiro turns back into his old self. The immense power of the Holy Judgment splits off into six. Each of these fragments of energy flows into the bodies of Shiro’s friends. Relieved of this vast strength, Shiro almost immediately passes out on the floor.
Shiro “…It’s…finally over…”
