The Noble, the Cobbler, and the Carpenter
What is the definition of noble? Most of those that are “noble” are those that are rich and have power. However, that is not so. Being noble is not something reserved for those that have all the money and have royal descent! Why, it can be for anyone either they are rich or poor. That is why the Carpenter and the Cobbler is the most noble out of everyone else. There are three reasons why they are. The first reason is that they are just normal people; the second is that they were not involved in any suspicious plot whatsoever, and the last reason is because they are not a politician.
The Carpenter and the Cobbler are just normal people like I have previously said. They are not major politicians, great generals, or even soldiers. They are only civilians, nothing more. They are not as highly educated like everyone else that is in the story, and thus the saying “Ignorance is Bliss” comes to play. The Carpenter and the Cobbler most likely doesn’t know anything that is going on within their government. Because of this, they are already more noble than those that are close to Caesar.
Cassius, Brutus, and Casca formulate a plot to kill the ruler of Rome, Julius Caesar. They are conspirators, and they plan to actually MURDER a person! That is not good and immoral to kill another human being. Whether they have a good reason or not, taking the life of another is wrong. The Carpenter and Cobbler, however, are not part of this plot and therefore are innocent of this heinous crime. Already, it is proven that they are nobler than those that are planning to eliminate Caesar. The reason why is because the Carpenter and Cobbler are not planning on killing anyone.
Now the last; and most important reason is because the two are not politicians. Politicians are not to be trusted. Not in modern times, and not back in the time where Caesar had lived. One example is that Cassius is a politician. Though he is a politician, he is plotting against Caesar with Brutus, a general that is high up in the government. The Carpenter and the Cobbler are well, a carpenter and a cobbler. Therefore, they are nobler than those that are in politics in Caesar’s government.
In conclusion, I declare that the Cobbler and the Carpenter be the noblest out of the characters in Act 1 of “Julius Caesar” for the reasons that they are just normal people, not involved in a suspicious plot, and not politicians. Truly, the Cobbler and the Carpenter are the only ones that are not involve with Caesar in anyway and not plan to kill him either. They root for him because he rules and they will root for the next leader as well. They just want to survive and stay on the leader’s good side. They are honest and hard-working. They may very well be the noblest characters out of the entire story.
