Desires – A Digimon Tamers Fanfiction
Prologue: Dreams
“Let go! If you keep holding on we’ll both…”
“Idiot! It’s not like you to give up! What happened to you? Hang on, Rika!”
Amethyst eyes penetrated the cool darkness as they opened up. The purple orbs turned to stare at the clock, blinking several times to get the LED numbers into focus. The head that held the eyes sighed as it turned in the futon.
Closing her eyes, the girl known to her friends and family as Rika, her contemporaries as the Digimon Queen, and the general populace as one of those Digimon Tamers, tried to resume her sleep. After a futile few minutes, the fiery tamer groaned and sat up. From the shadows, something appeared, however, Rika knew what, or rather, who it was.
“This is starting to become routine, Rika,” Renamon said plainly, though concern about Rika was evident in her voice. “Are you sure you do not want to talk about it?”
“I’m sure,” Rika said a little harsher than she wanted having just gotten up. “Really, it’s nothing,” she added. After all, it really was nothing, just a dream of what happened almost a month ago when a Locomon appeared along with a Parasimon invasion.
Nothing differed in the dream than what had occurred. All it was about was the events that happened after she was freed from Parasimon’s grasp. She was rolling off the side of Locomon when Takato grabbed her hand just in time. If he didn’t let go, both of them would have fallen off the speeding Locomon. Yet surprisingly, Takato had called her an idiot for saying that. Luckily, Renamon came and brought her in through the window.
Maybe it was just her brain telling her to pay back Takato for calling her an idiot. Though why it kept bringing it up, in her dreams, no less, not to mention making her wake up, she hadn’t a clue.
Shaking her head to rid her of the thoughts, Rika stood up. Sure it was nearly two hours before she usually woke up, which was quite early in itself, but she knew she couldn’t get back to sleep. ‘Stupid Gogglehead,’ Rika thought, as though she blamed him for making her wake up earlier than usual, again. And in fact, she did, though she would rather be controlled by a Parasimon before telling Takato he was preventing her from getting a good night’s sleep. ‘On second thought, I’d rather not have either happen. But I have to stop waking up like this,’ Rika thought, not bothering to make her bed yet as she went to the bathroom.
As Rika walked to the bathroom to do the daily morning rituals, Renamon shook her head, unsure of what to make of this. Exiting the room by way of her shadow act, she reappeared on top on the roof over Rika’s room. Feeling the cool air bristling her fur, Renamon looked out over the city line for a few minutes, watching the first vestiges of the rising sun appearing.
‘Something is bothering Rika, but what? It’s happened several times since the Parasimon incident, and she still won’t say anythi-‘ Renamon’s thoughts stopped in its tracks as her instinctive feelings washed upon her. ‘A bio-emergence?’ Truth be told, there haven’t been any bio-emerging Digimon since the invasion, but there was one now.
“Renamon!” Rika called as she ran from inside her room. She was in her usual attire of her white and blue shirt with a full heart emblazoned on the front, her blue jeans with the two belts, one around the waist, with the other around her left leg. She held her white and blue-trimmed digivice in her hand, while her cardholder was holstered to her belt. The digivice was beeping, signaling the bio-emergence of a Digimon.
Renamon nodded, doing a front flip off the roof and landing next to Rika. “Hmmph, show off,” Rika said, smirking just a bit, running outside of her Japanese-styled house. Renamon was right there next to her, keeping in stride.
“Show off? Never,” Renamon replied as she looked over towards Rika. Although she could just rely on her own Digimon senses, she looked over to the digivice in Rika’s hand, now in it’s compass function, which indicated the Wild One was straight ahead.
Furious typing was heard as a beeping red circle was flashing on the hemispherical screen around them. The overnight watch of the Hypnos building never had to deal with such a high-leveled bio-emergence before. “Someone get a hold of Yamaki!” one of the fill-ins for Yamaki’s most trusted two operants, Riley and Tally, said.
“On it!” her cohort said. A ringing was heard until a gruff voice quickly picked up.
“Yamaki,” was the stern answer.
“Sir! A high-leveled Wild One just appeared and is set to bio-emerge in ten seconds.”
“What? Why didn’t you contact me earlier?” Yamaki all but yelled. He was a little distressed that after a full month without a bio-emergence that one would happen when he was off-duty.
“The Wild One came so suddenly, sir! Wait, it appears as though one of the Tamers is closing in on it!”
‘One of those kids is up this early?’ the blond-haired agent thought bitterly. He felt he had a responsibility to those kids, and for one to be at the area when he wasn’t present at Hypnos irked him. Grunting, Yamaki spoke, “Keep me posted if there’s any change in the situation. I’m heading there right now. And find out which one of the Tamers is there!” Yamaki didn’t bother to wait for a response as he shut his cell phone and rushed to get to the government twin building.
Both reached the expanding digital field located just a few blocks from Rika’s house. Rika took out her violet sunglasses and ran through the cloud. Expecting a destructive rampage, the dead silence surprised Rika. When it cleared up inside, she took shades off, looking around for the Digimon. A soft muttering coming from above told her exactly where it was.
Floating in the air was a dark-robed Digimon, whose face was obscured by the cream-colored cloth that was covering the area from his head to his shoulders. The cloth extended down his back and turned into two wings of the same color. Hovering above his hands, were two spherical objects.
Rika held up her digivice to the Digimon, hoping to shed some light to the dark-robed Wild One. An array of circles appeared with the image of the Wild One centered in it.

Rika glared at the screen. It was just an Ultimate, yet something about his plain appearance belied his actual power. She wasn’t worried, but some backup would have been nice. Knowing the others though, none of them would be awake, except maybe Henry with his background in the martial arts. Turning to Renamon, Rika said, “I have a feeling we’ll need to biomerge.”
Renamon nodded in agreement before Rika held out her digivice in front of her for biomerging. The shining light from the digivice finally got the attention of the Ultimate-leveled Digimon. He had stopped his muttering and stared down at the redheaded tamer and her partner. Within the next few moments, a bright ball of light wrapped around their forms and bonded them together.
Yamaki rubbed his eyes with one hand, not having his almost always-present sunglasses on. With his other hand on the wheel of the car, he quickly sped through the streets, appreciating the lack of cars this early in the morning. His eyes constantly darted to the phone that was in the cup holder, as if expecting that something would happen and he would get a call.
The feeling would not disappoint him. As he drove up into the Hypnos parking lot, his phone rang once. “Report,” Yamaki answered, knowing who called without looking at his phone.
“Sir, we have identified the Tamer who is currently engaging the Digimon. It is Rika Nonaka.”
“Hmm… Have the other Tamers appeared yet?” The Head of Hypnos asked, as he rode the elevator up to the operations floor.
“No, there appears to be no sign of them anywhere near the emergence point, sir.”
“Keep an eye on her, I’ll be up there in a minute.”
“Very well, sir.”
A golden, high-heeled boot stepped out of the sphere of light and then another as the biomerged Digimon known only as Sakuyamon made her appearance. Purple greaves and gloves covered the legs and forearms of the shaman Digimon, respectively, while dressed in a black skin-tight suit covered by the gold armor that adorned her breasts, shoulders, and head. The golden helm was shaped like a fox’s head, covering the top half of her head, allowing for the long, silvery hair to billow out and part like two tails of a fox, tipped with white.
Once the light of digivolution died down, Sakuyamon spoke to the robed Digimon in her two-toned voice. “What business do you have here?” the combined voices of Rika and Renamon asked, hoping that showing diplomacy would deter them from fighting. She shifted slightly, though, causing the golden rings on her staff to make little clinking noises.
Wisemon simply floated down to the ground and motioned towards her with his hand, the orb floating above it following, connected by some unseen force. Sakuyamon, naturally tensed up, but made no move to attack just yet. “Momentai, Tamer,” came the unexpected response of the Digimon. Sakuyamon started as the Wisemon used the catchphrase of a certain long-eared rabbit-dog Digimon. Underneath the glowing yellow eyes, all that was visible of his face, appeared a glowing smirk. “I do not come to destroy this world you live in, but to warn you of one who does.”
Still wary, Sakuyamon points her staff at Wisemon; the clinking of the rings all but broke the silence that permeated the mist. “Why should we trust you?” Sakuyamon asked in a voice that was mainly Rika’s, suspicion evident in her tone.
Wisemon shook his head and chuckled slightly. “I am not the destructive Digimon you have come to know, Tamer; I do know what goes on in your world. I believe that you have done well so far, but your new foe is one you need to be prepared for. It would not bode well for the Digital World if your world is destroyed,” Wisemon says in a calm, genteel voice.
Just as Sakuyamon was about to ask another question, an abnormally strong, cold wind blew about them, causing the rings to make their clinking sound once again. Sakuyamon glared through her fox mask, “What’s the meaning of this?” she demanded, jumping back as she felt a strange sensation from a beam of moonlight that pierced the fog. In her data sphere, Rika’s eyes began to droop, hardly able to focus on what was going on. It was strange, seeing as she was so alert just moments before. Although she couldn’t tell, the digital field was getting smaller, as if sucked into a miniature vortex.
“This is not my doing,” Wisemon finally says after looking around him. The fog was now rapidly condensing around him. “She knows I have been here. Take heed of my words, Tamer, you must remember for the fate of both worlds!” By this time, Sakuyamon was left out of the field, the fog closing in upon Wisemon and then disappearing. ‘Remember the dream,’ the voice of Wisemon said the moment the field vanished.
‘That was weird,’ Rika said mentally in her data bubble. Renamon just gave the equivalent to a mental shrug. ‘Whatever, let’s go home Renamon, I left my cell phone in my room. We’ll need to call the others about this,’ Rika said, her comment being accented by a yawn.
‘As you wish.’ Sakuyamon turned and jumped into the air to fly towards Rika’s house. Nearly halfway to her house, Rika spoke up, a feeling of fatigue pervading her senses.
‘Renamon? Are you feeling tired too? I think… something hit us…before,’ the Tamer asked, her words mumbled. As if on cue, Sakuyamon started glowing, leaving behind the bodies of Rika and Renamon. Though not expecting the dedigivolution, the vulpine Digimon quickly regained her senses and saw Rika falling down towards the street below. Shouting her name, Renamon dove to grab the limp form of Rika, stumbling forward as she landed, unusual for the graceful fox.
“Rika, are you all right?” Her only response was a light snore. Deciding it would be best to just let her partner rest, Renamon carefully carried Rika to her house. She tried thinking about what just occurred, but her mind was cloudy and unwilling to cooperate. Upon jumping over the walls surrounding Rika’s house, Renamon felt her eyes start to close, being jolted open as she stumbled when landing. Reaching Rika’s room, Renamon gently placed her on her futon before walking a few steps and collapsing.
“The high-leveled Wild One has been dissipated, sir. The Nonaka Tamer has also left the area.”
“I can see that,” Yamaki said, staring at the screen that covered the top half of the large room. The red dot that was the indicator of the Wild One suddenly disappeared, more than likely due to Rika. However, something bugged the shaded Head of Hypnos. ‘A high-leveled Wild One defeated that fast? Although the Nonaka girl has a lot of skill, there would have been some sign of struggle…unless…’ Yamaki looked at the screen where the flashing red dot was. He could have sworn that there was another signal that partially overlapped the first one, yet it was there for hardly a second.
“Get me a full report of what just happened and send it to my office,” Yamaki finally said after a few more moments of staring at that point, trying to remember if he had really seen the second dot. Turning, he exited the room, his right hand twitching for a brief moment. He frowned when he realized that he had not brought his lighter with him.
In her sleep, Rika stirred, quietly mumbling something, “…Wisemon… Sakuyamon…“ Renamon would have been surprised at Rika’s sleep talking. However, they were both out cold, in an unnaturally deep sleep, as the sun made its full appearance, starting the day for most people.
