Howdy all,
I'm an anime fan who's stumbled onto the .hack franchise, and I'm rather fascinated by it. I've never played a console RPG nor even owned a console, but will probably pick up a used PS2 this weekend if I can also find some of the .hack software. I'm not completely ignorant of RPGs but my past involvement with them seems like a lifetime ago. I am what many people would call an adult but given the mess adults have made of this world, I hate being automatically associated with them. Anyway IRL I'm a salaryman in the IT field. I'd tell you my whole life story, but it's a long song and hearing it, you'd surely think I was a dying calf in a hailstorm.
I have a question, I'm just a little confused (or maybe a lot), and hope someone can clear this up for me.
The .hack franchise is a multimedia story arc spread out over manga, anime, and console RPGs, dealing with a fictional MMORPG called "The World", its precursors, and it successors.
But this site appears to exist in support of a *real* online RPG called "The World:R3". Yet I don't seem to be able to find it.
And, admitedly, my inability to find it could be proof that I'm as clueless as tofu is tasteless.
A clue or two would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The site has an extensive history and backstory, having worked in 'R:2' using most of the canon characters for nearly a year before we reached the end of our storylines (mostly a modified version of the canon plot in the games). At that point we decided to make a 'Third Revision' and created new characters to play in that context.
The Site's storyline is considered AU to the canon plot with a lot of references to events that happened both in the canon story and the site's own story. It is a bit of a belated project to make a synopsis of our 'R:2' storylines.
If you have any other questions, please ask me or the other active users and we will answer them as promptly as possible.

As a person who hasn't watched .hack or played the games....I've pretty much made my place here. I'm sure you'll do the same, which is the the good thing about this site. You don't have to know much about .hack, and what you do have to know is explained by the admins here. Hope you enjoy yourself.

I'm off to a bad start. I've stolen Sakura's weapons. I'll have to study more and think aboutthis carefully. I thought I'd simply use a PC from the franchise, but most everyone else here has been pretty creative. Very impressive!

It is possible to use a PC from the canon character cast, you may just have to tweak the background a little bit to fit the current timeframe. We are open to modifying a base character into something more interesting (god knows how different my Ovan is from canon Ovan)
