Always There for Each Other
How long have I known you?
Since you were a child?
Since we were seven?
So untamed and wild?
We then grew apart as boy and girl.
I'm sorry I didn't invite you to my tenth birthday,
Though we were the best of friends.
However without you, it was pain rather than play.
We would stay up all Christmas day;
We would both doze off in our sleeping bags;
We would pass notes in class,
Then get in trouble, cleaning the floor with wet rags!
Years have passed and we became teens.
I had moved away, while you had stayed.
We sent each other letters and e-mails to be in touch,
Wanting to be together, like the days in which we played!
My dreams were realized, but yours was shattered.
I was there with you, always trying to support.
We were best of friends, I couldn't leave you behind
If only I wasn't late for you that time
You became a young mother.
I became a surgeon, but I wasn't happy.
I realized that I loved you.
You realized it too, but we believed it was too late.
I was married with a child.
You had a daughter and we were both thirty.
I had sent you a letter after my divorce;
It held all my feelings for you, but I wasn't being flirty.
As friends passed on, our family died too.
We became old at the age of fifty.
Your daughter married her best friend.
Then we both realized how foolish we were.
We asked ourselves many questions,
However, was being together forever a possibility?
I loved you. You loved me.
Fate kept us apart, until this one final moment.
I went to your home.
We were both surprised.
We looked into each other’s eyes.
Our wrinkled skin, pale, though it shined.
Then there was a silence.
We both just smiled.
There was always that possibility.
However, we never reached our arms to it.
We were both blinded.
Why couldn't we realize in time?
Years missed together by our shyness,
But now held each other in our arms.
There was always that possibility.
Our eyes twinkled in happiness.
We both leaned in.
Then together we kissed.
